October brings Richard Prather’s solo exhibition Big Places in Small Spaces. Prather’s paintings center largely of the atmospheric textures of the southwestern landscape. His paintings depict the subtle whisper of the light and dark, warm and cool notes that make up the muted light so often found in the canyons and arroyos of the Southwest. A new selection of the artist’s oil paintings will be featured.

In October Yucca Art Gallery will celebrate the work of member artists, Renee Gentz, Helen Bamert, and Teresa Jones. Ms. Gentz is a textile artist, widely known for the unusual wall art she creates out of self-dyed textiles, Ms. Bamert is a weaver who fashions very popular, striking apparel, and Ms. Jones is a jeweler who creates interesting and unusual jewelry of glass and other materials. Light refreshments will be served and demonstrations are scheduled for the afternoon. This event recognizes these three artists and the other member artists of the Gallery.

This unique Old Town gallery has long been a favorite of visitors here for the annual Balloon Fiesta. Many special new items are featured this month including new works from Native American artists Farrell Cockrum and Jess Chavez; Pacific Northwest pottery designs from Matthew Patton; hand-carved cottonwood Hopi and Navajo fetishes as well as Baltic amber and fantastic genuine New Mexico pueblo jewelry. Locally owned and operated since 2008 and always artisan sourced throughout the Southwest.
