Open House 3-6pm
Please join Palette Contemporary Art and Craft at the open house for Barbara Gilhooly and Ayn Hanna’s ‘A Stitch in Time and Wired Line’ with both artists being present. Hanna and Gilhooly developed a love of line and rich surface texture and cultivated it through their collective background of drawing and printmaking. In May’s work, they explore their attraction to geometry and texture in various media. Hanna creates textile paintings with layers of fabric combined with thread “drawing” to create texture and line. Most of Gilhooly’s work is rendered on wood or constructed out of wood or wire. Her paintings contain many paint layers and carved surfaces. The exhibit will remain in-gallery through June 22.

Marta Light’s acrylic painting, some with charcoals, on canvas, board, paper or textured woods, and permanently varnished are in this unique show entitled Rhythm and Gestures. Music and nature inspired Light’s new work. She states, “exploring metaphorically, music, places visited, felt and remembered from dreams and moments of hearing music in the past, present, and with references to the future. My intent is to show something in a way that is felt as well as seen in a rhythm and gesture-both hidden and revealed”. Wes Pulkka, art critic, states, “Light has an abstract expressionist approach to her paintings that incorporates natural and architectonic structure with Oriental-style calligraphy. Light’s work parallels early paintings by Kandinsky from his “Improvisation” series that were inspired by music. Light seems to enjoy painting and has the ability to express emotional and romantic response to the sometimes story of landscape. Each image is designed to emerge from the white light like a thought that is never full formed or realized.”
