Painting Demonstration 5-8pm
Abstract oil painter Daniel North is back at Palette with his show Balancing Act which depicts the struggle for balance between nature and human progress/consumerism. Daniel will show his artistic process to all on the 21st. He’ll bring a hollow door, to which he typically pins eight sheets of canvas or paper to start. He sketches in full color and completes his paintings in oil-based enamels. He’ll reveal how he builds up his paintings, one layer at a time. Granted, working close to the beginning of the Holiday Season, he won’t be able to place his paintings in the radiant New Mexico sun to bake each layer, like he does in June, so he’ll make accommodations to his routine for the purpose of the demonstration. As well, with eight sheets pinned to the door, he has the opportunity to capitalize on his “serial” tendencies, as a complete series of paintings is likely to emerge from the proceedings. Show runs through January 2, 2015.
