Old Town ARTScrawl

Weems Gallery
303 Romero NW – 764.0302 –
Opening 5-8pm
Weems Gallery features artists Alice Valdez and Esta Bain. Although Alice Valdez is self-taught in batik, one can see the influence of Indian and Javanese techniques evident in her work. It is this combination of being self-taught and bringing her past painting experience to this media that explains her varied and ingenious approach to batik and the painting quality found in her work. Esta Bain has delighted people of all ages throughout the Southwest with her wonderful ceramic sculptures. The majority of figures are blanketed Indian women holding a child. The carved faces are serene and the total look of each piece is one of warmth, strength, and security.
