Framing Concepts presents 2 ANSWERS TO ART. Two local and well known artists opening with new and recent paintings from each. Lyle Brown, a retired architect, paints mostly landscapes in oil and pastel with an occasional architectural object introduced to enhance the painting. Lyle is inspired by the ambiance of the landscape and strives to simplify the major elements to bring out the essence of color and line to create harmony. Dianna Shomaker renowned inventive painter who crafts primarily in acrylic and collage very often does not know what the end result may be. It may be a ballerina dancing, a pair of hands clasped together or ??? The point is enjoying the journey. The end result is usually unique and delightful to the viewer. She works in acrylic, oil, encaustic, ink and torn paper on rag board or canvas and all manner of mark-making bits.

With over 35 years of experience in working with and creating crisp, graphic, and clean-lined ceramics, Andrew has developed an “enigmatic” compositional style which is unique to his body of work. Utilizing his “slab-built” approach to creating structural forms, he applies color and design to each form via the use of slips and underglaze pencil. Come see and decide for yourselves as to whether “enigmatic” is an appropriately-used description of Andrew’s pieces. Show continues through July 3.

Weyrich Gallery presents The Unique & Unusual new Wood & Gas Fired Ceramics by Judith Duff, and Crossing Over Mixed Media Paintings by Susan Zimmerman. Judith Duff was born in Macon, Georgia and in 1991 she established her studio, nestled in the mountains of North Carolina. Frequent studies in Japan have influenced her work. and she is one of the most recognized women in clay today. Susan J. Zimmerman says of Crossing Over, “Engaging in the creative process is a journey bridging the material world and the spiritual world. Layering is my method of choice. The physical layering of collage elements reminds me of layering in life-of time, experiences and relationships. Show Closes July 26.
